Leigh Vacuum and Router Support
Dust control in the workshop is perhaps the most significant safety issue we must deal with…every day.

Almost everything we do in the shop creates waste that must be controlled and routers used with dovetail jigs have been a particular problem.

Things are about to change!

The revolutionary Leigh Vacuum & Router Support, the VRS (patent pending) provides dust and chip free dovetail routing coupled with superb router support.

Rather than letting the chips fall where they may, the unique design of the VRS keeps the moveable vacuum chute in perfect position to collect waste as you rout across the joint. The router glides easily across the finger assembly and router support beam while the control arms keep the vacuum chute accurately positioned at all times.

Pictures are better than words and a movie is even better. Click here to see a five-minute introductory video of the VRS in action.

Jake Sandison, Burlington, ON

I have been woodworking for about 7 years and I have always wanted to make a family blanket chest to give to my son someday.
My surname is Scottish, and I carved the clan Gunn crest on front of the chest.

The Celtic knot is picked up off our wedding bands. The chest will hold my kilt and other accessories as well as years of family memories.

I washed the oak down with 2 coats of household ammonia followed by 4 coats of 1 pound cut shellac and a coat of black shoe polish.

Tom Gill, Victoria, BC

I recently built a bedroom unit, using a combination of 3/4" ply and solid oak.

The drawers were of Baltic birch and untreated.

The interior of the upper cabinet and all exterior surfaces were given two or three coats of medium walnut Watco Danish oil followed by two coats of a waterbased Varathane satin.

This hall table is made from walnut and padauk with pau amerello accents at the bottom of the legs.

It's approximate size is 39” high x 48” long x 16” deep.

The legs are tapered on two sides, and sliding dovetails join the leg bracket at 45° to the legs and the stretchers. The table features key stone inlay at the center point of both stretchers.

The table is designed around the illusion of a floating top, which is not new, but also for the illusion of unsupported legs as well.

When observed from the right spot, the top floats and the legs stand alone, unattached.

This table was recently voted Featured Project, by the members of Canadian Woodworking’s Woodworking Forum.
