WOOD KOTE FEATURED IN POPULAR INSTRUCTIONAL DVD
Wood Kote Products’ wipe-on pigment gelled interior wood stain sold under the trade name, Jel’d Stain and 2-component wood bleach sold under the trade name Lite-N-Up are demonstrated in a recently released instructional DVD produced in Canada.
The DVD, entitled Surface Preparation and Staining, is produced by internationally known woodworking authority, Hendrik Varju as part of his “Private Woodworking Instruction in a Box” series.
Both Wood Kote products are manufactured at the Oregon factory and are sold worldwide.
Most Wood Kote products are destined for large commercial applications such as hotels and cruise ships. Varju says it is sometimes difficult to find Wood Kote in his native Ontario but demonstrates in his DVD why the products are worth the search.
Wood Kote Products Inc formulates many of its products to meet the requirements of the (California) South Coast Air Quality Management District. Canada, like many other regions throughout the world, has adopted similar regulations. Architects and specifiers are voluntarily selecting low VOC coatings as their contribution toward a cleaner and better environment.

DELTA WOODWORKING MACHINERY HAS A NEW HOME
DELTA Woodworking Machinery Has A New Home – In Anderson, South Carolina
Chang Type Industrial Co. Ltd., a Taiwan-based manufacturing company, has agreed to purchase the Delta brand of woodworking equipment and machinery from Stanley Black & Decker. The deal is expected to close on February 4, 2011.
The new, independent company, Delta Power Equipment Corporation, will be based in Anderson County, South Carolina and led by Bryan Whiffen, who has been named President & Chief Executive Officer. Norm MacDonald has also joined the company as an Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. Both Whiffen and MacDonald have years of experience in the power tool industry, and have been responsible for manufacturing and marketing such brands as Ryobi, Homelite, Milwaukee and Ridgid.
The new Delta company will continue to provide a complete line of professional woodworking equipment and machinery, and will continue to build the world-class Unisaw, as well as the Biesemeyer accessories, in the United States. Plans are to move the manufacturing equipment from Jackson, Tennessee to the company’s facility in Anderson.
Once fully operational, the Anderson facility will include manufacturing, R&D, engineering, sales and administrative functions.
“We are pleased to be able to say that the Unisaw will continue to be made in the USA,” said Whiffen. “We are also excited for this opportunity to invest in the great Delta brand so that we can bring high quality, innovative woodworking equipment to Delta’s loyal customers.
Delta Power Equipment Corp. is working to ensure that the fine sales and service that Delta dealers and woodworkers have come to expect will continue.
“Stanley Black & Decker has been very supportive of this sale and have agreed to help us make the transition as seamless as possible for our dealers and our customers,” added Whiffen.
Customers and dealers can continue to obtain information on sales and service for Delta woodworking equipment at www.deltamachinery.com
AWFS 2011 CALL FOR ENTRIES
The Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) is now accepting entries for the 2011 Fresh Wood Student Woodworking Competition.
The competition, which will be showcased at the 2011 AWFS Fair, July 20-23, in Las Vegas, is open to full-time students in an accredited high school or post-secondary woodworking or related program and part-time students in an accredited post-secondary woodworking or related program that are transitioning into a career in woodworking or design. Post-secondary schools include colleges and universities as well as trade, art and union apprenticeship schools. Entry applications will be accepted until May 2, 2011.
The competition has six categories at both school levels: case goods, chairs, open, production/contract, reproduction, and tables. Entries will be rated by a panel of judges that represent different aspects of the industry such as design, education, manufacturing and retail. Judges’ scores will determine the finalist pieces that will be on display at the AWFS Fair. AWFS covers shipping and the majority of costs to bring students and their teachers to the Fair for the final round.
All of the forms and guidelines for the 2011 Fresh Wood Competition can be accessed at AWFSFair.org or by contacting Adria Torrez at AWFS (800) 946-2937 or adria@awfs.org.
NOTE: AWFS’s Fresh Wood competition always receives Canadian entries. In fact, the winner of the Best of Show award in 2009 was a Canadian high school student.
For this year, 3 Canadian schools have already registered: Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School (Brampton, ON), Selkirk College (Nelson, BC) and Camosun College (Victoria, BC).
All finalists and their instructors are flown to Vegas at AWFS’ expense.
