I just saw the April/May 2011 issue come off the press and I'm stoked!
The April/May issue is a themed issue focussing on 'Working in a Small Shop'. It is the brain child of our editor Rob Brown who has wanted to cover this topic since the day he came on board.
As a fine woodworker, Rob has worked in, and visited a lot of shops - and has often been impressed with the amazing work that can come out a small workshop. More recently, as an editor, Rob has been meeting and corresponding with woodworkers across Canada many of whom are working with space constraints. Rob has drawn from these experiences and has put together a great issue that addresses small shop problems and solutions.
If you have ever been frustrated with your lack of space, or if you have ever struggled with how to make the most out of the space that you have, then the April/May'11 issue is definitely for you.
The 'small shops' issue will be mailed out to subscribers March 14 and will be available shortly after that at Home Hardware Building Centres, Lee Valley, and Busy Bee. Subscribers are set to receive theirs a bit earlier than that.
Enjoy!
Paul

TREND RELEASES NEW VIDEO: JAMES BARRYs GUIDE TO DIAMOND SHARPENING
Trend Routing Technology has introduced a new instructional DVD entitled, “James Barry’s Guide to Diamond Sharpening.”
James Barry has more than 25 years experience in the diamond sharpening market and he has worked with a wide range of tooling manufacturers from all over the world. He is highly regarded as one of the foremost experts in diamond sharpening and he is known around the globe for his lively and informative demonstrations.
James Barry stated, “There are many types of diamond and there is a wide variation in price points in the diamond sharpening market. The market is cluttered and quite frankly I believe that the consumer is confused by the array of product and claims by manufacturers. We found it necessary to educate the consumer on the different diamond sharpening tools and the proper techniques that the user should employ during the sharpening process.”
Barry continued, “It is not difficult to sharpen with the right equipment. This DVD shows (from a hobbyist to a professional) how anyone can affordably sharpen easily in seconds. It is not a rocket science and it is actually very easy to sharpen when utilizing quality diamond stones and files”
The DVD is broken down into seven segments. It begins with a lively introduction into diamond sharpening. It is followed by the proper utilization of a double side credit card stone, the use of a taper file in the workshop and garden, the proper utilization of a kitchen steel and it ends with pen file and outdoorsman file techniques. There is also a chapter on Bench stones and the complete Trend range which also shows chisel / plane blade sharpening and the new trend honing guide.
Barry also stated, “Trend will be introducing new unique and innovative sharpening stones and files in the coming months and I look forward to returning to North America this year to participate in some of the shows and exhibitions.”
The James Barry’s Guide to diamond sharpening DVD will retail for $ 12.90 USD and the product code is U*DVD/DWS/JB.

ROCKLER INTRODUCES DUST RIGHT VORTEX
Convert a Standard Shop Vacuum into a 2-Stage Dust Extractor
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced the Dust Right Vortex, a 10-gallon dust container that turns any standard shop vacuum into an effective two-stage dust extractor. When used with most power tools and shop vacuums, the Dust Right Vortex™ captures sawdust, wood chips, and other shop debris before it gets to the vacuum, effectively preventing the loss of suction power caused by a clogged vacuum filter. Dan Wenning, product development specialist at Rockler, says, "Shop tools such as routers, planers, and table saws create a huge amount of debris that needs to be removed in order to maintain a clean and safe shop.
Unfortunately, most of that debris will reach the vacuum filter, clogging it and quickly robbing it of suction. The Dust Right Vortex uses a patented process that intercepts that debris, collecting a vast majority of it in the 10-gallon container before it can clog a filter."
The Dust Right Vortex has other conveniences not found in competitive products, such as:
• Its 10-gallon capacity is twice the size of other available dust collection containers
• The 5-caster base makes it easy to maneuver throughout a shop, and provides exceptional stability
• Translucent container has an easy-to-read "fill" line
• The snap-on lid is easy to remove, making disposal fast and easy
• Hoses fit tightly inside the connection ports to prevent unwanted disconnection
• Includes a 36" flexform hose that connects the Dust Right™ Vortex to any shop vacuum
The Dust Right™ Vacuum (SKU: 40530) retails for $ 69.99 and is available at Rockler Woodworking, Rockler's independent resellers, Rockler.com, or in the Rockler catalog.

FORUM MEMBER MAKES WOODEN SHIRTS, AND HEADLINES
A student, at the school where Dave Danchuk's children go, initiated a big event for Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying event.
To support the event, Dave cut out 360 wooden t-shirts (one for each student), which students hung on the school yard fence after the students painted them.
The event was picked up by the NOW Newspaper (Dave's local paper) who interviewed Dave.
NOW ran the story on their front page.
Soon after, it was picked up by at least a dozen newspapers including the Vancouver Sun and the National Post as well as others both in Canada and the U.S.
Great job Dave!
