New Square-top Blades from Forrest

Forrest Blade Forrest Manufacturing’s two Square-Top Woodworker II blades deliver absolute 90º bottom cuts without scoring.

They are ideal for producing clean, scratch-free square cut box and finger joints. Like other Forrest blades, they come with a 30-day, money-back guarantee.

When asked how the two blades compare to competitive products, Mr. Forrest said, “Other brands grind a square top. But our blades cut a square bottom. The reduced resistance makes Forrest blades less likely to produce splintering and tear-outs. Quality-minded woodworkers recognize this as a big advantage.”

Forrest blades can be obtained direct from the factory, as well as from quality dealers, retailers, and catalogs. For more information about Forrest products or its factory-sharpening, call 1-800-733-7111 or visit www.ForrestBlades.com

Tormek Launches New Jig for Drill Bit Sharpening

tormekphoto.gif The complex geometry of a drill bit point makes it very hard to free hand sharpen it correctly. This Fall Tormek will launch a new Drill Bit Sharpening Attachment DBS-22 which makes it possible to sharpen drill bits on your Tormek Water Cooled Sharpening System with the highest precision.

You create a 4-facet point which gives the ideal cutting performance. The optimal point- and clearance angle can be set according to each drilling requirement, which depends upon the drill size and material. You can completely restore worn drills as well as broken drills to a perfect shape. Unlike conventional drill bit sharpeners, Tormek sharpens with water cooling which is gentle on the steel. Overheating of the steel is usually not noticeable, but the consequences are that the drill will dull rapidly and may even break. By working with the laws of physics and cooling the edge continuously, the risk that the steel becomes overheated and loses its hardness or gets micro cracks is eliminated. With a 4-facet sharpening, the chisel edge gets a point instead of being almost flat as on many drills. A 4-facet point will not walk and the thrust force required is considerably reduced compared to a conventional cone point drill. It generates less heat and the life of the drill is therefore also prolonged.

The attachment can be set at any point angle between 90¡ and 150¡ and at four different clearance angles. This flexibility enables you to give the drill the geometry that works best for each drilling operation. You can for example minimize the burr, which occurs on the exit side of a drilled hole by increasing the point angle and decreasing the clearance angle. The drill holder as well as the guides are made with the highest precision to ensure that the lengths of the two cutting edges will be equal within close tolerances. This is an essential requirement so that the cutting edges will work equally and bore a round, straight hole, which is not larger than the drill diameter.

Copes with drills from 3 mm (1/8") to 22 mm (7/8") and fits all Tormek models. Recommended retail price $ 274.99.

New Crown Support From Bench Dog Tools

“Many hands make light work” is a suitable motto for the new Crown Support from Bench Dog Tools.

What used to require an assistant and a second ladder is now portable, permanent and unfailingly reliable.

Unlike similar products on the market, the Bench Dog Crown Support straddles the molding, leaving the installer free to slide the molding around and adjust it for the tightest joint possible. This eliminates the need for climbing down the ladder and adjusting the molding support device.

The soft support pads are fully adjustable to accommodate crown moldings from 11/2" to 8" wide. Once adjusted, the support assembly swivels and wedges against the wall and ceiling, providing a secure hold with no risk of marring. Built from top quality materials, and with entirely tool-free adjustments, this is a support that asks for little, and keeps on giving.

The Crown Support threads onto most standard painter’s poles, as well as the new 12' Telescoping Pole

(SKU #31337, .99), (also from Bench Dog Tools).A separate adaptor (SKU #33940, .99) is also available that allows the Crown Support to be used with the FastCap® 3rd Hand Extension, a support pole that many carpenters already own.

The Crown Support (SKU #36449) retails for .99
