500 Cabinets: A Showcase of Design & Craftsmanship

If you love the craft of woodworking, then treat yourself to 500 Cabinets. The subtitle says it all - this is an inspiration book for furniture and cabinet makers, containing photographs of 500 cabinets of all kinds.

You won't find the work of any of the iconic furniture makers - Krenov, Maloof, Peters, Castle, Osgood or the like. What you will find is the work of 'ordinary' furniture makers - both professional and hobbyist - most of it in a contemporary style. Some of the pieces are unassuming, while others, like Gaston Blaise's 'Lelia's Dresser' display bold craftsmanship and elegant design. Other woodworkers take a more playful approach to their work - doesn't Burnell Yow!'s 'Balance' bring a smile to your face?

At the back of the book you'll find a list of the artists and where they reside. Unfortunately the editor hasn't listed their web sites, which I found inconvenient, as I wanted to look up the works of several of the contributors.

500 Cabinets is part of Lark Crafts' '500 series'. Other books in this series that will be of interest to woodworkers are: 500 Chairs, 500 Tables, 500 Wood Boxes, and 500 Wood Bowls.

A great source of inspiration, and just plain enjoyable to peruse. Put your Smartphone aside, turn off the TV, curl up with 500 Cabinets, and enjoy.
