A great selection of tips that will save you money, time, and aggravation.

601 Woodshop Tips & Tricks

Graham McCulloch knows a thing or two about about woodworking - after all he's been making sawdust for close to 60 years, both as an amateur and professional woodworker. And, he has several other books under his belt, including "The Woodworker's Illustrated Encyclopaedia". Graham is also a regular contributor to woodworking magazines and is the publisher of the popular web site 'Shortcuts'.
Graham's latest tome is chock full of useful information. Essentially it's a compendium of solutions to common shop problems that Graham has accumulated over his long career. If you're new to woodworking, then this book is a gold mine of information, though even stalwart woodworkers may learn a new thing or two. These aren't all original tips and tricks (a number have been published previously), but they are conveniently collected together in one place.

There are ten chapters to the book, with chapters subdivided into two or more categories. Each category has anywhere from half a dozen to over two dozen tips and tricks. There are generally four tips/tricks presented per page. This is a nice format, as it enables the author to use fairly large photos or illustrations, so that you can see a lot of detail. Most of the photos are well composed (and all are taken by Graham himself). The text that accompanies each photo is clear and concise. You'll find the index at the back of the book convenient, as it enables you to quickly find what your looking for.
Graham covers just about every aspect of woodworking in this book, from finishing to joinery, along with solutions for a whole host of power tools and shop machinery. There are tips that will save you money, time, and aggravation. Keep the book in the shop, ready at hand for those times when you need a bit of sage advice, or cart it off to the back yard with a cup of your favourite for a relaxing 'study session'.
