Shuswap School of Carving and Arts - 2018 Classes

Shuswap School of Carving and Arts 2018

The Shuswap School of Carving and Arts is pleased to announce it's schedule of 9 classes (8 carving in wood, bark, and stone and 1 watercolour painting) being offered at the 2018 five-day School in Sorrento, BC – from September 24-28th.
The Early Bird Registration draw date is April 15th. If any class has more than 10 (max. 12 in some cases) registrations on that date, a draw will occur to see who gets confirmed in the class, and who gets put on a wait list.  We therefore recommend registration before April 15th for the best chance of getting into a 1st choice class.

The School consists of five days of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. classes during the last week of September. It was held annually for the first 10 years, but is now held every 2nd year (ie, 2014, 2016, 2018).  There are 6 to 10 classes offered during the week, with usually a maximum of 10 students per class.

Most classes involve some form of wood carving using hand or power tools or both -- for example, in-the-round birds, animals and marine life; relief carving; bark carving; northwest coast-style masks, rattles, etcetera; caricature carving.

In the past several years, we've also offered a stone sculpture class for those who want to hone their carving skills using stone instead of wood.  We also try to offer one or two non-carving classes (i.e. painting, drawing, basket weaving, quilting) to provide a possible option for travelling companions with different interests.
