WOODSHOW '18

Saskatchewan Woodworkers' Guild Seeks Sponsorship for WOODSHOW '18

WOODSHOW '18

Every year the Saskatchewan Woodworkers’ Guild puts on a wood show. Participation in the show is restricted to members of the guild and any Saskatchewan school student under 18 years of age. The show is an exhibition of woodwork along with demonstrations of woodworking techniques. People travel from all parts of Saskatchewan and beyond to view the gallery-style exhibition, with WOOD '17 seeing over 1,500 visitors.

WOODSHOW '18 will be presented at the Galleria Building in Innovation Place in Saskatoon from May 26 through June 3, 2018.  This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Woodworkers’ Guild and the annual wood show.  The gallery-style show, open to the public at no charge, will be open from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm daily, except on June 3 when it will close at 4:00 pm.  There are no commercial vendors at the show. Members donate hand crafted items for door prizes which are drawn for at the close of the show.

In soliciting your sponsorship, I would point out that acknowledgements for your business will appear at the main desk of the show and in demonstration areas throughout the duration of the show.  Acknowledgement will also appear in promotional material and on our web site as well as in our monthly newsletter.

The Saskatchewan Woodworkers’ Guild consists of approximately 125 members committed to promoting and providing education in the art and craft of woodworking. Regular members come from all walks of life and demonstrate a great diversity of woodworking talent. Our membership is also open to Industrial Arts programs in Saskatchewan schools as well as 15 associate memberships representing woodworking guilds throughout Canada. We are the proud recipient of the 2010 Lieutenant Governor's Arts Award for Leadership.

Members of the Saskatchewan Woodworkers' Guild donate materials and approximately 3,000 hours of volunteer time each year. Some of the volunteer activities include:
  • This year, as part of the 40th Anniversary, we decorated a 6 foot Christmas tree with over 200 handcrafted wooden ornaments displayed and sold at the Festival of Trees.
  • Specialized woodworking instruction in schools and communities throughout the province is part of the mentorship aspect of the Guild.
  • Making toys for the Denny Carr Secret Santa campaign
  • Pumpkin carving each Halloween season at Market Mall which has realized well over $10,000 for various charities since 1985.
  • Promoting woodworking in the province by sponsoring an award of excellence for the biennial Dimensions show which is put on by the Saskatchewan Craft Council.
  • Making reading stands and light tables for distribution by the CNIB to visually impaired children and adults who are unable to afford commercially available equipment.
  • Constructing natural wood playground furnishings for an inner-city Learning and Childcare co-operative.
The guild's objectives are met by providing classes and seminars within the guild, as well as shows and demonstrations for the general public, and at conferences throughout the year. Development Grants are also available for those wishing to further their knowledge in a specific woodworking skill.
