Beauti-Tone and Canadian Living

The Canadian Living Coast-to-Coast colour collection celebrates the contemporary style and passion of True North homes

Burford, ON (2019) – Beauti-Tone, a division of Home Hardware Stores Limited, and Canadian Living magazine are paying homage to all that is beautiful in Canadian style and culture with the creation of the Canadian Living Coast-to-Coast Colour Collection. The Collection represents each province and the territories and includes 55 fresh colours in 11 distinct palettes. Whether you gravitate toward neutral or bold hues, this colour collection reflects the casual elegance of True North homes.

“Partnering with Canadian Living, a magazine so richly a part of Canada’s lifestyle essence, was a dream come true,” says Bev Bell, Creative Director, Beauti-Tone Paint and Home Products Division, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “Canadians have great taste. We don’t boast about it, but our sense of style is undeniable. As two proudly Canadian companies, one the largest Canadian owned and manufactured paint brand and the other, Canada’s largest lifestyle magazine, we wanted to create beautiful contemporary colour palettes that Canadians would love.”

The Beauti-Tone and Canadian Living design teams drew on the diversity of Canada’s landscape and the connections that bring us together.

“Whether you live in a historic home in Lunenburg or an on-trend urban condo, when it comes to colour, Canadians look for inspiration indoors and out, coast to coast,” says Erin McLaughlin, Editorial Director, Canadian Living magazine. The Canadian Living Coast-to-Coast Colour Collection celebrates the many places we find beauty in Canada – the way light sparkles over water or on a mirrored skyscraper; the rich saturation of colour deep in a forest; or the riot of colour in an urban marketplace. “We are so lucky as a nation to be blessed with such an expansive colour aesthetic to draw that inspiration from,” adds McLaughlin.

What could be more beautifully Canadian than the watery blues and sea glass shades of the east coast, the stony greys and dazzling aquas in the west, and the perfect snow whites in the north.

Once you find a palette you like, imagine the colours throughout your home—on walls, trim, doors or even a beloved wooden furniture piece in need of an update. Then imagine the chameleon-like quality of that colour, how it will change throughout the day and make your space beautiful in so many ways.

Coast-to Coast beautiful:
Newfoundland & Labrador: Red, blue and green, this adventurous combo welcomes a whole new vibrancy to your (decor) doorstep. Think of the colourful facades of the homes that dot St. John’s Jellybean Row, which represent the province’s heritage and everlasting charm.

Nova Scotia: Colourful, whimsical and fun are just a few of the ways to describe this laid-back scheme of sunny yellow and sea glass shades. These hues are reminiscent of summers spent at the beach with the warm sand beneath your feet.

Prince Edward Island: The mix of lilac, violet and dusty mauve, grounded with a deeper shade of purple, imparts a romantic look and an enchanting tone. Picture expanses of meadowland and beach grasses punctuated with wildflowers.

New Brunswick: Channeling the feel of a charming old home in the middle of the Acadian countryside on a late summer’s day, this rural-inspired palette of browns, taupes and grey is a lot more modern than meets the eye. Quebec: Pale pinks and golden yellows—this palette is feminine and sophisticated, featuring a lovely warmth and a touch of global flair. It takes its cue from a romantic stroll along Old Montreal’s cobblestone streets, with their charming storefronts and European atmosphere.

Ontario: Ontario’s character-filled lakeside towns evoke everyone’s favourite colour combo of fresh blue and crisp white, which emits a bright, breezy vibe while making a big style splash.

Manitoba: Strong, masculine shades are ideal for grounding a room and imparting it with bold character, and this scheme of warm greys, crisp blue and moody purple imparts a cool vibe that still feels warm and organic.

Saskatchewan: Tasteful and timeless, rich oatmeal, golden cream and pale blue-grey form an easy scheme to work with. Plus, the combination of hues gives the illusion of casual coziness.

Alberta: The province’s varied landscapes—from prairie wheat fields and the Rocky Mountains to evergreen forests and turquoise lakes—inspired us to create this earthy mix of greys, greens and a soothing honey yellow. We love how this palette exudes organic warmth in a casual and modern way.

British Columbia: This serene scheme of off white, soft grey and green tones exudes a dreamy air that brings the beauty of nature indoors. Think of driving along the Meadows in the Sky Parkway in B.C.—a visual feast that flows from verdant valleys to rugged mountains.

The Territories: Ranging from icy white to storm grey to pitch black, this moody colour scheme is pure sophistication. Picture winter landscapes with snow-covered evergreens, frozen lakes and overcast skies.
