DEWALT Launches New 20V MAX Cutout Tool for Drywall Cutting and Routing Applications

Mississauga, Ontario (November 3, 2014) – DEWALT announces the launch of its new 20V MAX* lithium ion drywall cutout tool (DCS551). The DCS551 is ideal for cutting drywall, acoustical ceiling tiles or plywood to install recessed lighting, switch plates/outlet covers, sprinkler heads, signage, HVAC ventilation and various other drywall cutting applications. With the new 20V MAX* cutout tool, drywall users can minimize the downtime typically associated with running extension cords on the jobsite and the expense of replacing frayed or damaged cords.

“Many drywall carpenters are converting to cordless power tools as they are a more portable and productive solution,” says Mark Emmerson, lead category manager, DEWALT Canada. “Our new 20V MAX* cutout tool gives drywall users the option to cut that cord.”

The DCS551 delivers 26,000 RPMs (no-load speed) for fast cutting speed through various materials & board thicknesses. In addition to the productivity gains associated with simply being cordless – the tool also offers a tool-free bit change collar, so users can change bits without needing a collet wrench. The tool includes a bright LED light for cutting in dimly lit environments. The unit features a slim ergonomic handle, and a design that is over 30% lighter (3.1 lbs) than the previous DEWALT 18V cutout tool**. The unit’s durability is enhanced by a dust-sealed switch to protect against contamination, high impact housing material to withstand drops and a ball bearing spindle construction to minimize bit run-out.

The 20V MAX* cutout tool will be sold bare (DCS551B) for $119.00 and kitted (DCS551D2) with two 2.0 Ah XRTM lithium ion battery packs for $219.00. Both SKUs ship with the ¼ and 1/8 inch collets, and are available now wherever DEWALT products are sold. The DCS551 comes standard with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee.

*Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 20 volts. Nominal voltage is 18.
** DCS551D2 weight measured with DEWALT 2.0 Ah lithium ion battery pack vs. DC550KA weight measured with DEWALT 2.2 Ah NiCd battery.
