Veritas Trammel Points (lead photo)

Usable on any rule up to 1/4" thick, these narrow-bodied trammels can be set to reproduce radii as little as 9/16". The removable points score clear lines on any wood, and are also effective on aluminum, brass, bronze and mild steel. With the points removed, the trammel bodies double as square gauges, clamping onto a square to make repetitive angle marking easy. Inspired by an antique trammel set found at a woodworking show, our version is made of stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance, and has knurled sections to make the tips easier to remove. Each is about 1/2" in diameter and 2-1/2" long overall.

Texturing Blades for Veritas Scrub Plane

After we introduced our scrub plane (our item #05P35.01), we were surprised to learn that customers were using it not only for rough stock removal, but also for final finishing – using the aggressively cambered blade to give surfaces a rough-hewn, rustic appearance.
While the 3" radius blade supplied with the scrub plane is well suited for larger-scale work such as flooring or beams, it is oversized for cabinets and smaller furniture. That's why we've created these texturing blades. The wave-like blade flutes cut multiple small grooves with each pass, letting you create a surface finish that would normally require repetitive, painstaking work with a gouge.

The four-flute blade has 1/8" radius edges; the two-flute blade has 3/8" radius edges. Each A2 tool steel blade is 6" long, 1-1/2" wide and 3/16" thick.

Wile Plane Hammer by Veritas

Making fine adjustments to plane-blade position is easier with the right tool, and few can compare to the finely made plane hammers of Richard Wile, a hobbyist woodworker from Nova Scotia.

Based on Wile's design, this hammer is machined in our shop to have the same elegant proportions as the original, giving it a weight and balance that feel right in the hand. The small brass head, only 5/8" in diameter and weighing 3 oz, allows precise, delicate adjustments to the blade. The torrefied maple end flares out to a 13/16" diameter face to distribute the force of strikes. This face is slightly belled with rounded edges to help avoid marring your plane. The handle, also torrefied maple, is 10-7/8" long.

A tool that is as pleasing in the hand as it is to the eye. An excellent fine hammer with many uses around the shop.

Veritas Quick-Release Wonder Dog

This version of our Wonder Dog has a fast-acting cam mechanism to speed adjustments. You just slide the head against the workpiece, then throw the lever to apply clamping force. Curved and irregular shapes can also be clamped; two screw holes in the brass dog head let you attach a custom face of any shape, giving good control without marring work.

The low-profile head and clamp body are 5/8" and 11/16" thick respectively, so you can plane stock as thin as 3/4" without worrying about hitting the clamp. The 3/4" diameter, 2-3/4" long post lets you use it wherever you can drill a suitably sized hole, and is canted to keep the clamp head against the bench top under clamping force. The dog has just over 6" of travel. The rod, post and cam lever are made of steel.

Veritas Wooden Bench Plane Hardware

These plane kits let you build a wood-bodied smooth, jack or jointer plane with a Norris-style mechanism for easy depth and lateral adjustment. You can customize the size and shape of the completed plane, creating a practical tool that you can rely on for many years to come.

Each kit includes a blade and a Norris-style adjuster with a steel cup to seat it in, plus a knob, tapped insert and cross pin for the lever cap, all made of brass. You have the choice of a 2" wide, 1/8" thick blade or a 2-1/4" wide, 3/16" thick blade in A2, O1 or PM-V11® tool steel, all with 25° bevels. You provide the wood of your choice (see the chart for minimum blank sizes). Detailed instructions are provided.

An excellent project for both beginners and experienced woodworkers.

Veritas Mortise Chisels

These are substantial mortise chisels. The blades are more than 1/2" thick at the heel of the bevel and are a consistent width from tip to shoulder for accurate registration in a mortise.

The chisel sides are slightly relieved to reduce sidewall friction and allow for minor cut corrections. Each has a 25° primary bevel to make deep cuts easier, with a 35° secondary bevel to give them a durable cutting edge. To aid in levering out waste, the heel of the bevel is rounded to provide a smooth fulcrum. A2 or PM-V11® tool steel versions are available.

The blade-to-handle connection is made with a tang and a socket-like ferrule. The tang has flats to prevent the handle from rotating. Turned from a solid blank, the ferrule seats directly onto the shoulder of the blade.

The hard maple handle has been torrefied, a heating process that changes the structure of the wood at the cellular level, stabilizing it against swelling and shrinkage caused by humidity changes. The handle is contoured to fit the hand nicely, with shallow flats parallel to the blade sides to provide tactile cues for blade alignment and finger placement. The end is domed and has a stainless-steel hoop to resist chipping and deformation from mallet blows.

Overall lengths range from 11-5/8" to 12-1/4"; blade lengths (including bolster) range from 5-5/8" to 6-1/4". Only final honing is required before use.

Veritas Universal Variable Angle Plane Fence

Designed to fit a wide array of bench planes, including those made by other manufacturers, this variable angle fence can be used left or right. Not just for right angles, the fence allows you to plane accurate and consistent angles from 45° to 135°.

Angles are set using a square or angle gauge, or directly on an angle you wish to match. A spring-loaded lever locks the fence and can be rotated out of the way when not needed.

Trough-holes in the 11" long aluminum fence allow the attachment of a wooden extension, or a tapered spacer for planing angles less than 45°.

The fence clamps to the side wing of most planes using the included brass clamping knobs (refer to the chart here); the position of the clamping knobs is adjustable to accommodate the length of the plane's side wing.

For planes such as our jack rabbet, jointer, shooting and custom bench planes, the fence is designed to mount to the tapped holes in the side wings using stainless-steel knobs that are available separately.
