Durable build, enclosed storage for both mobile device and battery, instant Bluetooth pairing, and the clear, crisp sound that it delivers, make this speaker a stellar choice for any workshop or any small to medium size indoor jobsite.

Makita Bluetooth Speaker

The Makita DMR200 has a compact 7-3/4" cube shaped body made of durable PVC plastic. A heavy rubber overmold protects all four corners and the front edges from errant bumps and drops. The front mounted 10-watt 4" and 1-1/2" speakers are covered with a protective metal screen. Atop the unit is a large handle that is easy to grasp when wearing gloves, and that folds flush when not in use.

It has an IP64 dust and moisture rating, which means that the electronics and drivers in the speaker are totally protected from dust infiltration, an important consideration in any woodworking shop, and protected from splashing water from any direction. While you don't want to drop the DMR200 in the water on a fishing trip, you don't have to worry about rain showers when using it on a job site.

The overmold reaches under the speaker as well, protecting the bottom of the casing.

At the back is a storage compartment for your mobile device. It will easily fit phones up to 3-1/2" wide and 7" long. The lid closes tightly so you don't have to worry about your phone falling out.

You can power the DMR200 with any Makita 12V MAX, 14.4V or 18V battery, or by plugging into a standard 120V outlet (an AC adapter is included). This is one of the few speakers that provides secure, covered storage for the battery –  in a compartment at the back of the unit.

As with all the Bluetooth speakers I looked at, pairing the DMR200 with your mobile device is a piece of cake. You simply press the Bluetooth button on the DMR200, and then select DMR200 from the paired Bluetooth list on your mobile device. Once paired, any time you turn the speaker on in the future it will automatically seek a connection.

The control buttons are intuitive and easy to manipulate. While some speakers have shared buttons, on the DMR200 the buttons that control volume (- and +) are separate from the buttons that control pausing and song progression, which I find much more convenient.

On the side of the case you'll find a 5V, 2.1A USB port, which enables you to charge your mobile device, an AUX In port, so you can connect an MP3 player or other non-Bluetooth device, and a DC port, for running the speaker off a 120V outlet.

With a 4.0 Ah Makita battery the DMR200 provided four six-hour work days of music on a single battery charge. Because I work in a small shop I keep the volume at a low to medium level – you can expect a shorter play time as the volume is increased. I was able to confirm that it has a 100 foot wireless range (actually 118 feet) - as long as there is an unobstructed line of sight between the DMR200 and your mobile device. As with any Bluetooth device, walls, doors, or corners will reduce that range dramatically. I find that the 10-watt 4" and 1-1/2" speakers provide very clear sound at whatever volume level I set – both in my workshop and outside on the patio.

The DMR200 is one of the most durable Bluetooth speakers you're likely to find. Nothing short of running over it with a truck is likely to damage the unit. The enclosed storage for both mobile device and battery, instant Bluetooth pairing, and the clear, crisp sound that it delivers, make this speaker a stellar choice for any workshop or any small to medium size indoor jobsite.
