Milwaukee Fastback Flip Pocket Knife

In a work shop or on a job site a utility knife is a very handy item to have on hand. A small knife, stored in a pants or vest pocket, or clipped to your belt, takes up little room, and is always there when needed.
The Milwaukee Fastback Flip Pocket Knife (48-22-1901) has several nice features in its favour. There aren't any plastic parts on this knife; body is made of cast aluminum, and is almost indestructible. At 5" long it's what I would consider a medium sized pocket knife. I find this size good for hanging on a belt, but a tad long to keep in my pants pocket. My standby folding pocket utility knife, the Irwin 2089100, is 3-1/2" long; I barely feel this one in my pocket.
What I consider the neatest feature on the Milwaukee knife is its one handed blade opening feature. Press the black blade release button with your thumb, and then gently flick your wrist, and the blade fully opens. Any faster and it would be illegal. Press the blade release button again and then tap the back of the blade with your forefinger, and the blade snaps shut. This is way cool, and very functional. Up on a ladder or hanging on to scaffolding you don't want to have to use both hands to open or close a utility knife.

Comfortable fit in the hand
Another nice feature is that the blade remains automatically locked in either the open or closed position (most knives only lock in the open position). It's a great safety feature. The belt clip is quite different than what I'm accustomed to using. I'm not overly satisfied with this wire clip - maybe I just need to get used to it.

Wire belt clip
Gut hook - cut twine or cord without opening the knife
Replacing a blade on the Milwaukee knife couldn't be any easier or quicker. Press a little black release button,  slip out the old blade, and then insert a new blade. Unfortunately there isn't any on-board storage for extra blades. The knife includes both a wire stripper and a 'gut hook', which sounds pretty gruesome. The wire striper is enables you to strip up to 10 gauge wire, while the gut hook enables you to cut wire, twine and the like without opening the knife.

The Milwaukee Fastback Flip Pocket Knife is comfortable to use, opens almost instantaneously, fits smartly on a belt, and comes with a lifetime warranty. At under $20 you won't be disappointed.
