Trend Mortise and Tenon Jig - Canadian Woodworking Magazine

Trend Mortise and Tenon Jig

Trend Routing Technology now offers a patented jig for producing mortise and tenon joints with a router. Because of its inherent strength, the mortise and tenon joint is a very popular joint for a multitude of woodworking projects. Now you can create mortise and tenon joints with ease and consistency by using this jig and your router.

An adjustable template is used with the Trend Mortise and Tenon Jig. Once set, the user can cut the mortise and tenon simply by using a different cutter and guide bushing combination fitted to the router. In each case, the guide bushing follows the inside of the template and guides the cutter to the required shape.

The jig will create round end tenons with matching round end mortises of many standard thicknesses and widths. The material thicknesses can range from ½" to 2" and the maximum tenon length is 4". Also, the angles of the components can be adjusted up to 45° in both planes for complex joinery applications, making this jig extremely versatile. In addition, the Trend Mortise and Tenon Jig will also cut haunched tenons, square tenons, loose tenons and dowel joints. The set comes equipped with five screw-on brass bushings for tenons, one 2 ⅛" screw-on guide bushing for mortises and a ⅝" brass screw-on bushing for dowelling. Optional accessories include a set of five long reach straight bits ($65) and dust extraction kit ($58). The Trend Mortise and tenon jig retails for $450 in Canada.

When I used the Trend mortise and tenon jig to cut some joints recently I was very impressed by its flexibility. There is so much you can do with this jig. In fact, if one of the main power tools in your shop is a router, this jig would expand the scope of joinery you could machine instantly.
